Dean enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, playing cards, reading and spending time with his family, friends and his special companion Doby. After retirement, Dean and Janice moved to Northwood. He spent a majority of his working life in manufacturing, working at Wil-Rich in McVille and Brittonya Industries in Northwood, ND. Dean spent several years working at the McVille Creamery. Together, they made their home in McVille, ND.
On April 25, 1959, he married Janice Trostad at Ottawa Lutheran Church, rural Aneta, ND. Dean served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959.
